How to take care of cashmere?

It’s super soft, wraps you in luxury and looks beautiful – CASHMERE is one of the most valuable materials. Used by top-class fashion designers, it’s elegant and timeless. If you have cashmere treasures in your closet, learn how to best care for them to keep their looks and valuable properties.

WASHING CASHMERE – NOT SO SCARY!
If you want to enjoy your favourite cashmere item for a long time to come, hand washing is the best way to keep it in top condition. Soak the item in lukewarm water (maximum 30 degrees – when washing clothes by hand, we often use water that is too hot, so pay attention!), then add a suitable detergent designed for washing cashmere or delicates. It is enough to gently squeeze and rinse – avoid strong rubbing that will damage the structure of the material. You can also opt for professional dry cleaning, but we recommend doing it no more than once a season.

HOW TO DRY IT?
The golden rule: Never wring your garments! After washing, place your garment between clean towels and gently press to remove excess water or gently press your sweater into a ball. After draining, unfold flat onto a fresh towel and turn from time to time to allow air to enter from both sides. It’s very important to dry cashmere laid flat, otherwise it may stretch under the weight of the water and lose shape. Last, but not least: remember, that cashmere garments should not be dried in direct sunlight.

GENTLE STEAMING
You should never use an iron on any wool or cashmere garments as heat will irreversibly destroy the fibre. If your garment is very creased we recommend using a steamer. You can also use it in between washes for a quick refreshment.

CASHMERE WELL TAKEN CARE OF
When you wear cashmere items for the first time, small bobbles may appear on the surface (pilling). Pilling arises from the entanglement of loose fibres that create bobbles when worn, i.e. friction. It is important to note that their formation does not mean inferior quality cashmere it is an inevitable consequence of the careful processing of these unique fibres. The bobbles can be easily removed by hand or by using a special comb or clothes shaver for cashmere garments (quick tip: always work the tool in one direction). It also has its advantages by removing the pill, your cashmere garments will become softer to wear.

KEEP YOUR CASHMERE SAFE
After the season of enjoying your favourite cashmere clothes, wash them, dry them and store them gently in a breathable bag. Try to protect your wardrobe against moths (they love natural wools!) by storing them with some lavender or cedar wood which are natural moth repellents and keep an eye in case this type of problem arises.

CASHMERE STORAGE

As you can see, cashmere garments require proper care and attention, but if you put your heart into it, they will retain their values and aesthetics for you to enjoy for many years to come.
